SharePoint search result not found from specific document library

I came across a situation where user is trying to search documents selecting the option "search in same site" instead of "all sites" from  search box and getting no result where as can find documents from other library with in same site. SharePoint search result not found from specific document library

Why such happens ?

The first point comes to mind for search error is  content not crawled, indexing not done for this situation.

Yes , its true but we need to think why  ?

As per my investigation I found the setting of the library as below

Draft-items-are-not-crawled-in-SharePoint

By default SharePoint only crawls major versions of files and draft items are only viewable by their creators. SharePoint is behaving as expected out of box.Draft items are not crawled in SharePoint

Resolution :

This behavior can be altered in Document Library Settings -> Versioning Settings -> Draft Item Security

Select the option "Any user who can read items".

This will allow all users to see draft items including the crawling account.

* Else you need to select "Create major versions" option or can publish the documents as major versions if want to get those documents in search result as per client wish.

Chart Web Part SharePoint 2010

Chart Web Part SharePoint 2010

One of the new additions to Microsoft's SharePoint Server 2010 platform is the Chart Web Part (CWP), which allows you to create static and dynamic charts for your site without a line a code. One of the complaints from MOSS 2007 was that users wanted to be able to drop a chart onto their site to create dashboard or display information from Excel documents, or provide metrics to other users in a graphical way.

So now that the Chart Web Part is available, let see how we can use it. To drop a Chart Web Part on your page, go to Site Actions > Edit Page. From there, click "Insert" from the Editing Tools menu. The "Chart Web Part" is available under the "Business Data" category, then you can click on the CWP option and add to a content area.

Chart_Web_Part1

Once added to the page, you will see "Data & Appearance" and "Advance Properties" options.

Chart_Web_Part2

There are a couple of ways you can go once you click the "Data & Appearance" link. You can change the way that the chart will display under "Customize Your Chart" or change the data connection the chart by selecting "Connect Chart to Data" link.

Chart_Web_Part3

The "Customize Your Chart" options will start with selecting the type of chart you'd like to have display your information. There are 2D and 3D chart types you can select and various sub-types of chart types to choose from.

Chart_Web_Part4

Chart_Web_Part8

Chart_Web_Part9

Then click "Finish" and you have a web part on your page, but now we need to decide which data to use now that we've make look the way we want. To change the data source, click "Connect Chart to Data" and we'll review the options available.

Chart_Web_Part10

We can connect to another web part that has information that we need, maybe from another SharePoint list. We can connect directly to a list, the Business Data Catalog that contains your business system's data or to Excel Services that has a spreadsheet you'd like to dynamically update in one location and pull into a dashboard. For this exercise, I will connect to a List, in this case, I'm going to select my "Help Desk Tickets" list.

Chart_Web_Part11

Here is the information that is going to be contained in my chart:

Chart_Web_Part4

I provide some information to enhance how the chart will display the data and by which fields the data could be grouped by.

Chart_Web_Part5

The final result looks like this:

Chart_Web_Part6

You can change some of the properties or styles to get the result you'd like, but you can see it's pretty easy to add a chart (or charts) to your site with a little configuration. We could look at Excel Services or BDC data in the future, but the concept is the same.

Site not appear in IIS Manager error opening in SharePoint Designer

I have created a site collection and then create two team sites on SharePoint server. Sites are working fine from central Admin but Site not appear in IIS Manager. Also when I try to edit a SharePoint site on SharePoint designer 2010 following error comes.

Unable to open website following causes:

  1. The web server may not have SharePoint installed.
  2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
  3. If you are connecting through a proxy server the proxy settings may be incorrect.
  4. An error may be occurred in the web server

The IIS manager only showing the following sites SharePoint 80 and SharePoint central admin

When I try to create a site on SharePoint designer following error comes:

The web site must be created on a server that is running Microsoft SharePoint foundation server please choose another location.

I have installed SharePoint server 2010, SharePoint foundation server 2010 and SharePoint designer on my pc.

Solution :

* In IIS Manager, you're only going to see the Web apps, the site collections and sites are wont show up (if you have another web app that isn't showing up, that's a bigger issue. I'd delete it and try to recreate it.

* The SharePoint Designer issue, I've had before. For me, the issue was a firewall setting. But basically if you can get to the pages with the browser, make sure you have correct permissions set for your login, etc.

Deployment error web.config is invalid IIS Web Site

Deployment error "The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site"

I've developed a web part that deploys and works properly in my DEV environment. When I attempt to deploy to PROD I get the following error:

SOMESERVER : http://sharepointtechnicalsupport.com/ : SharePoint - 41981 :
Error: The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site:

C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\41981\web.config.

SOMESERVER : http://sharepointtechnicalsupport.com/ : SharePoint - 41981 : Error: The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site:

C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\41981\web.config.

SOMESERVER1 : http://sharepointtechnicalsupport.com/ : SharePoint - 23994 : Error: The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site:

C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\23994\web.config.

None of these virtual directories exist.

Solution :

In Central Administration-> Operation-> Services on Server, please stop the Windows SharePoint Services Web Application service, SharePoint will remove the sites in IIS. And then start the Windows SharePoint Services Web Application service again, SharePoint will recreate the sites in IIS based on information stored in configuration database.

A SharePoint web application can have several zones, each zone will have a separate site in IIS. You will not see all the zones in Central Administration->Application Management->Web Application List. You can find the information in Central Administration->Operation->Alternate Access Mapping.
